The supermarkets have warned customers of the serious risks if they eat the products.
Food poisoning: Expert gives advice on safe food storage
Tesco and Lidl have issued an urgent food recall warning for their customers. The two supermarkets are recalling multiple items due to a serious health risk.
Ham products may be contaminationed with Listeria monocytogenes. As a result, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has published a recall notice. According to the NHS, Listeriosis can make some people seriously ill and is usually caused by eating contaminated food.

The FSA said: “The possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed above. Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
“However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis. Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.”

It added: “If you have bought the above products, do not eat them. Instead, return them to where you bought them from for a full refund.”
Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling the products. The FSA said O’Brien Fine Foods are recalling the ham products in Northern Ireland only.
Lidl said: “If you have purchased the above products, please do not consume them. Instead, please return the products to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.
“Lidl wishes to apologise for any incovenience caused. Any customers with queries or concerns can contact our Customer Services Team.” For customers in the Republic of Ireland, they can call 019203010 and Northern Ireland customers can call 0289568488.
The NHS explained that Listeria can contaminate a wide range of foods, but most infections come from chilled, ready-to-eat foods such as cold, cooked slices of meats.
For most people, listeriosis is mild and gets better withing a few days. However, if you are at a higher risk of becoming seriously ill, you may need antibiotics.
Call 111 if you think you have liseriosis and are pregnant, have a condition that weakens the immune system, having treatment that weakens your immunse system or you’re concened about your baby.
Go to A&E or call 999 if you have a severe headache and stiff neck, have a seizure, feel suddenly confused, feel very sleepy, find it uncomfortable to look at bright lights and have a rash that does not fade when a glass is rolled over it.
