Prince William was “right” about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage, a royal expert has said. William, 44, reportedly warned his brother Prince Harry not to rush into a marriage with Meghan after it was revealed Harry had proposed to her in 2017 – less than two years together.

It is believed William advised his younger brother to slow down and not rush into marrying Meghan. This is because joining the Royal Family can be a lot to manage, with William dating Catherine for almost a decade before exchanging vows with her. Despite the advice from his big brother, Harry did go on to marry Meghan in 2018. They then quit royal life in 2020.

A royal expert has now said that Meghan did not seem comfortable with the royal rules she had to follow, which explains part of the reason why Harry and his wife are no longer working royals.

Royal historian Marlene Koenig said that she believes this makes William right in his advice to Harry, which went ignored, and that Meghan would have benefited from having more time with Harry before marrying him to see what life as a royal was really like.

She told the Mirror: “Meghan was not comfortable with all the rules. William was right to advise Harry to take his time and not rush into marriage.

“The family learned valuable lessons from the marital failures (Charles & Diana and Andrew & Sarah). Neither couple got to know each other well before the marriage. No real courtships.”

The historian continued: “Edward and Sophie and William and Catherine lived together before their marriages. That time allowed the women to learn what life would be like as a royal.

“Meghan was not afforded that time – and perhaps if they lived together for a few years, Meghan would have had more time to observe.”

Since quitting royal life in 2020, Harry and Meghan have lived across the pond in America.

They currently live in a Montecito mansion with their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five.
