King Charles has issued a statement to congratulate President Donald Trump and the American people as the US celebrates 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. In a new message published on the Royal Family’s social media channels, His Majesty told the US President: “Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people.
“As we look ahead to the next 250 years, I have no doubt we will continue to defend our shared values. The connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time.” The King signed the letter with “Charles R,” with R standing for Rex, Latin for King.
Charles and Queen Camilla headed across the pond from April 27 until April 30, before His Majesty travelled solo to Bermuda.
During their US state visit, the King and Queen were treated to the appropriate pomp and pageantry by their American hosts, with Mr Trump hailing the trip as a “tremendous privilege”.
The royal couple marked the American Independence, while Charles and Camilla also visited the 9/11 memorial in New York City.

Charles also delivered a moving address to Congress, referring to the bilateral relations between the UK and the US.
The King’s speech was met with rapturous applause and a standing ovation as he spoke of the heart of the relationship between the UK and the US as “a story of reconciliation, renewal and remarkable partnership”.
